Chiropractic is a safe holistic alternative method of health care that focuses on the spine and all the other major joints in the body. Chiropractic adjustments at Sherwood Blvd. Chiropractic are performed by the doctor using his hands to deliver a high velocity (high speed) low amplitude (low force/depth) thrust to the restricted misaligned joints in order to improve normal range of motion, improve neurophysiologic function and to decrease pain. If a patient is fearful of the popping noises (cavitations) or just nervous about manual adjusting, the arthrostim is great non-forceful alternative to adjusting and another instrument used to deliver the same therapeutic result as a manual chiropractic adjustment.
What is a subluxation/joint restriction?
A Subluxation or joint restriction is defined as: An abnormal relationship between two adjacent articular structures (joints) that may have functional or pathologic sequelae, causing a change in the biomechanical and/or neurophysiological relationship between these articular structures.
This condition can become a major issue if not addressed early on. It may cause abnormal wearing of the joint surfaces which can cause pain, pre-mature degeneration of the spine or other joint surfaces, as well different inflammatory processes.
At Sherwood Boulevard Chiropractic, we believe that the injured tight and tender muscles must be treated first in order to reduce the friction, strain and tension these muscles have on the joints. That is why Active Release Techniques (ART) and/or Graston Technique are used in most chiropractic treatments. To learn more about Active Release Techniques (ART) and Graston read the sections below.
Dr. Williams believes that “there is no other specialty or therapy that can treat the musculoskeletal system as quickly or effectively as a chiropractic manipulation and active release technique treatment!”
What is Active Release Technique?
Active Release Techniques treatment is a hands-on touch and case-management system that allows Dr. Williams to diagnose and treat soft-tissue injuries. Soft tissue refers primarily to muscle, tendon, fascia, and nerves. Specific injuries that apply are repetitive strains, adhesions, tissue hypoxia (lack of oxygen), and joint dysfunction.
What is an ART treatment like?
Every ART session is actually combination of examination and treatment. Dr. Williams uses his hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.
These treatment protocols - over 500 specific moves - are unique to ART. They allow Dr. Williams to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.
Different conditions we treat : Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART.

What is Graston Technique?
Graston Technique is an innovative and effective approach to the diagnosis and treatment of connective soft tissue injuries. The technique is performed with patented stainless-steel instruments designed to detect and treat soft-tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation in order to reduce pain and restore function.
When connective tissue, such as muscle, ligament or tendons become restricted or scarred, it can result in pain, tenderness, loss of flexibility and motion. IT is not unusual to find a restriction in one part of the body that produces pain and dysfunction in another area, commonly known as the kinetic chain.
